We are proud to host Shannon Hovis of NARAL for our annual talk on the status of reproductive rights in California and beyond. In lieu of asking members to pay to attend, this year we will be suggesting an optional donation that will go to NARAL.

Shannon Olivieri Hovis is the Director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. A policy expert & political strategist, Shannon has spent her career fighting for civil and human rights, with nearly fifteen years of experience as a change maker in state and local government, the classroom, electoral campaigns, and mission-driven advocacy. As a proud bisexual feminist, Shannon is fiercely committed to intersectional leadership, equity, and diversity. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Social Sciences and Theatre from the University of Southern California, a Master of Science for Teachers from Pace University, & a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Registration is free, but please consider making an optional donation in an amount of your choosing.  MCWL will ensure that all proceeds go to NARAL, and we will contribute an additional amount to NARAL in addition to audience contributions.

Sexual harassment and sexual assault are an increasing topic of discussion and concern for children across the nation.  This presentation will discuss the application of Title IX in K-12 California public schools as it relates to discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment and sexual assault.  We will explore the related entitlements and protections for children and youth under Title IX, and the administrative processes and procedures that apply.
